Delta Air Lines, Inc. (NYSE: DAL) is a major American airline headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia that operates an expansive domestic and international network, spanning North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the Caribbean. Delta lands in over 332 destinations in 57 countries (excluding codeshare), across 5 continents.[1] Delta has a larger route network footprint than any airline in the world and is the only major U.S. carrier that flies to Africa.

Delta operates hubs at Atlanta, Salt Lake City International Airport, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, & New York JFK; Delta's Atlanta hub is the largest/busiest airline hub in the world. Delta also has large domestic operations in many other cities, including Boston, Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, New York-LaGuardia, Orlando, Tampa, and Columbus. American Airlines, Inc. (AA) is the largest airline in the world in terms of total passengers-miles transported and fleet size, and the second-largest airline in the world (behind Air France-KLM) in terms of total operating revenues. A wholly owned subsidiary of the AMR Corporation, the airline is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, adjacent to the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. American operates scheduled flights throughout the United States, as well as flights to Canada, Latin America, the Caribbean, Western Europe, Japan, China, and India. The Chairman, President, and CEO of AA is Gerard Arpey. In 2005, the airline flew more than 138 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs).

As of February 2007, American serves 157 cities (excluding codeshares with partner airlines) with a fleet of 670 aircraft. American carries more passengers between the US and Latin America (12.1 million in 2004) than any other airline, and is also strong in the transcontinental market.

American has five hubs: Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), Chicago (ORD), Miami (MIA), Saint Louis (STL), and San Juan (SJU). Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) is an American low-fare airline based in Dallas, Texas. It is the largest airline in the United States by number of passengers carried domestically for any one year and the second largest airline in the world by number of passengers carried. It also maintains the fourth-largest fleet of aircraft among all of the world's commercial airlines.

Southwest Airlines carried more customers than any other U.S. airline in August 2006 (and has since maintained that statistic), making it the first time that Southwest Airlines has topped the monthly list for combined domestic and international passengers, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Southwest Airlines is one of the world's most profitable airlines and in January 2007, posted a profit for the 34th consecutive year. Its reputation for low prices and a laid-back atmosphere have made it an icon of popular culture.

United Airlines, also known as United Air Lines, Inc. (note that 'Air Lines' is two words) is a major airline of the United States. It is a subsidiary of UAL Corporation with corporate offices in Chicago, Illinois at 77 West Wacker Drive, and its operations base in nearby Elk Grove Township. United's largest hub is O'Hare International Airport, where it has 650 daily departures. United also has hubs in Denver International Airport, Washington Dulles International Airport, San Francisco International Airport, and Los Angeles International Airport. Its largest maintenance facility is at San Francisco International Airport.

As of July 31, 2006, United is the world's second-largest airline by revenue-passenger-miles (behind American Airlines), third-largest by total operating revenues (behind Air France-KLM and American Airlines), and fourth-largest by total passengers transported (behind American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines). United has 56,000 employees and operates 460 aircraft.

On February 1, 2006, United emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection under which it had operated since December 9, 2002, the largest and longest airline bankruptcy case in history.

Northwest Airlines (NYSE: NWA), occasionally known as NWA, is an American airline headquartered in Eagan, Minnesota near Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport in the United States. Northwest has three major hubs in the United States: Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport, and Memphis International Airport. Northwest also operates flights from a hub in Asia at Narita International Airport near Tokyo and also operates transatlantic and Asian flights in cooperation with partner KLM from Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. Additionally, it maintains focus city operations at Indianapolis International Airport and Honolulu International Airport.

Northwest is the world's fourth largest airline in terms of scheduled passenger - kilometres flown. In addition to operating one of the largest domestic route networks in the U.S., Northwest carries more passengers across the Pacific (5.1 million in 2004) than any other U.S. carrier, and carries more domestic air cargo than any other American passenger airline. It is the only U.S. combination carrier (passenger and cargo service) operating dedicated Boeing 747 freighters. The airline, along with its parent company and subsidiaries, operated under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection which, in the United States, allows continued operation during the reorganization effort, not cessation of flights as in the case in some countries. Northwest emerged from bankruptcy protection on May 31, 2007.

Northwest Airlines' regional flights are operated under the name Northwest Airlink by Mesaba Airlines, Pinnacle Airlines, and Compass Airlines. Its frequent flyer program is called WorldPerks. Northwest Airlines' tagline is "Now you're flying smart."

US Airways is an American low-cost airline headquartered in Tempe, Arizona, owned by US Airways Group, Inc. The airline is the sixth largest airline in the United States, and the largest low cost/low fare carrier in the United States according to destinations. Including aircraft operated by its America West Airlines affiliate, US Airways has a fleet of 357 mainline jet aircraft and 352 "express" (regional jet and turbo-prop) aircraft connecting 240 destinations in North America, Central America, the Caribbean, Hawaii, and Europe. As of February 2007, US Airways employs 37,675 people worldwide and operates 3,860 daily flights.

US Airways operates primary hubs in Charlotte, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Las Vegas, with the latter two being former America West hubs. Additionally, US Airways has a secondary hub in Pittsburgh. US Airways also maintains focus city operations at New York LaGuardia, Washington Reagan National, and Boston.

The airline operates the US Airways Shuttle, a US Airways brand which provides hourly service between key Northeastern markets. Regional airline service is branded as US Airways Express, operated by contract and subsidiary airline companies.

Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) is a US certificated air carrier. Based in Houston, Texas, it is the fourth-largest airline in the U.S. and the eighth-largest in the world by revenue passenger miles. Continental's marketing slogan, since 1998, has been Work Hard, Fly Right.

Continental operates to destinations throughout the U.S., Canada, Latin America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region. It has more than 3,000 daily departures, serving 151 domestic and 120 international destinations and has 42,200 employees (at March 2007). Principal operations are from its three hubs at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (in Cleveland, Ohio), George Bush Intercontinental Airport (in Houston, Texas), and Newark Liberty International Airport (in Newark, New Jersey). With a relatively small number of focus cities, the airline is arguably the most concentrated of all 6 major U.S. carriers around the hub and spoke system of airline travel. Continental Micronesia, a wholly owned subsidiary, operates routes around Micronesia from its hub at Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport on Guam and connects the Micronesian region with destinations in East Asia, Southeast Asia, Honolulu and Cairns, Australia.

Continental Airlines is a minority owner of ExpressJet Airlines, which operates under the trade name Continental Express but is a separately managed and publicly-traded company. They are also a minority owner of Copa Airlines. Cape Air, Colgan Air, CommutAir, and Gulfstream International Airlines feed Continental's flights under the Continental Connection identity, as does Chautauqua Airlines under the Continental Express identity; however, Continental does not have any ownership interests in these companies.

Since September 2004, Continental has been a member of the SkyTeam Alliance, in which it participates with Delta Air Lines, Northwest Airlines, and KLM. In addition to extensive code share arrangements with SkyTeam partner airlines, the airline also code-shares with Amtrak rail services to some cities in the northeastern United States, and with SNCF French Rail to destinations in France.

Air Canada is Canada's largest airline and flag carrier. The airline, founded in 1937, has its corporate headquarters in Montreal, Quebec. Air Canada provides scheduled and charter air transportation for passengers and cargo to over 240 destinations and vacation packages to over 90 destinations via Air Canada Vacations. Air Canada is the world's 11th largest passenger airline by fleet size and its largest hub is Toronto Pearson International Airport. The airline's parent company is ACE Aviation Holdings. Air Canada is a founding member of Star Alliance, an alliance of 18 member airlines formed in 1997. On January 19, 2007, the airline was voted Best Airline in North America.

In 2006, 34 million people flew with the airline. In 2007, Air Canada celebrates its 70th anniversary.
America West Airlines, operating as US Airways, is one of the United States' ten major airlines. The airline is based in Tempe, Arizona and is now a part of US Airways Group.

The airline maintains two hubs, one at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix, Arizona, and at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, through its merger partner US Airways, it also uses the US Airways hubs and focus cities. It is the second largest low-cost airline in the US. America West provides service to approximately 100 destinations in the US, Canada, and Mexico. Service to Europe is provided through code sharing arrangements.

As of March, 2005, America West operated a fleet of 140 aircraft with its only maintenance base in Phoenix.

On May 19, 2005, America West Holdings Corporation announced it would merge with the Arlington County, Virginia based US Airways Group. The new entity is named US Airways Group and is headquartered in America West's former corporate offices. The merger was completed on September 27, 2005, and America West now operates under the US Airways brand. A merger of the two airlines' FAA operating certificates is expected in 2007.

Beginning January, 2006, all America West flights are branded as US Airways, along with most signage at airports and any other printed material. Though many flights are still described as "operated by America West". Apart from two heritage aircraft and aircraft not yet painted with the new US Airways livery, the only America West branding present on aircraft are the seat covers and flight attendant uniforms.

Alaska Airlines, (NYSE: ALK), based in Seattle, Washington, USA, has grown from a small regional airline to one carrying more than 12 million customers per year. It operates hubs at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, as well as large operations at Los Angeles International Airport and Portland International Airport.

AirTran Airways is a low-cost airline that is a Delaware corporation with headquarters in Orlando, Florida, USA and is a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings. AirTran operates over 750 daily flights throughout the eastern USA and the Midwest, including over 270 daily departures from Atlanta. It is the world's largest Boeing 717 operator. AirTran's principal hub is at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and the airline's parent company, AirTran Holdings, is headquartered at Orlando International Airport, where AirTran also maintains a focus city.

JetBlue Airways is a major American low-cost airline owned by JetBlue Airways Corporation (NASDAQ: JBLU). The company is headquartered in the Forest Hills neighborhood of the borough of Queens in New York City. Its home airport is John F. Kennedy International Airport. JetBlue is a non-union airline.

In 2001, JetBlue began a focus city operation at Long Beach in southern California near Los Angeles, and another at Logan International Airport, Boston in 2004. This product is available on Boeing 717 aircraft.
